What exactly is Micro needling therapy? Micro needling therapy, also called dermarolling or collagen induction treatment, is an innovative cosmetic procedure which involves repeatedly probing the skin with small, hollow needles to inject collagen or elastin. Collagen and elastin are substances vital for the production of healthy, elastic connective tissue, and are naturally produced in the body. Too much production of these two tissues leads to wrinkles, sagging skin, and other aging signs.
The purpose of microneedling at home is to reduce the amount of collagen and elastin being produced, and to encourage the natural regeneration of new cells. This treatment has had tremendous success with the prevention and removal of stretch marks. Stretch marks, when left untreated, can form scars on the abdomen, breasts, hips, and thighs. However, patients suffering from stretch marks have shown great improvement after receiving Micro needling therapy.
During a Micro needling treatment, the plastic surgeon will insert a sterile needle through the skin into the area where stretch marks are forming. Once this is done, he will puncture the skin multiple times in short intervals. Each puncture creates a microtrauma, or small amount of trauma, which causes the collagen and elastin to be released. After each microtrauma, the surgeon will apply a small amount of numbing cream to stop any sensation of pain. Some creams have been designed specifically for this purpose.
Another way to achieve great results from Micro needling at home is to use a derma roller. Derma rollers resemble tiny hand-held loofas that a patient uses to apply the Micro needling solution. The advantage of using the derma roller over a Micro needling booth is that there is no need for a needle and the area that is being treated can become moist faster. Micro needling booths, however, must be professionally cleaned between treatments. The roller also allows for a more even application because there is no area that is not receiving treatment.
The microneedle is then wiped off with a sterile cloth. To finish the Micro needling treatment, the skin is then treated with a cream that contains aloe vera, to help it heal and prevent scars. The last step of this process is to cover the entire body with a large, powder-free shower cap. Before leaving the clinic, the healthcare provider may recommend that a patient not wear any makeup, because some makeup products can interfere with the treatment.
